Goodbye, Facebook

Update – May 1, 2019: Gone.

Ed. Note – April 24, 2019: I originally wrote the post below on February 1st, but for whatever reason decided to stick around for a bit. However, the latest batch of stories coupled with the fact that most posts I read make me literally hate everyone and everything finally pushed me over the edge.

TLDR: In an effort to preserve my sanity and for my own mental health, I’ll be deactivating, then eventually deleting, both my Facebook and Instagram accounts at the end of the month.

Dear Facebook,

It’s time for me to go.

If I think about it, this has been coming for quite a while. I haven’t exactly been quick to do anything about it (I mean how else am I supposed to know it’s the birthday of a friend I had in high school that I haven’t seen or talked to in 25 years?), but it’s time.

Why, you ask? Well, pick one or more:

I’m not sure exactly which of the above was the straw that finally broke the camel’s back, but over the last few days something finally pushed me to do something about it.

To my family and friends on Facebook:

I’ve enjoyed reconnecting with old friends, but I don’t want to keep supporting this company. There are a few ways that you can keep in touch with me if you’d like (I’d love it if you do). You can:

P.S. – Since Facebook owns Instagram and is ruining that too, I’ll be deactivating my Instagram account as well.
