I know that I’m wwwwaaaaaayyyyyyy late to the party on this, but I finally got a pair of AirPods right before flying out to Portland for Thanksgiving, and I absolutely love them.
Before the new iPad Pro came along, I thought the AirPods were really interesting, but I didn’t have much of a need for wireless headphones. I had a bunch of wired EarPods from various phones over the years, and a couple of lightning to headphone jack adapters from the last couple of years and could make do with those.
Enter the 2018 iPad Pro. Not only is there no headphone jack, there is also no lightning port, so I had no way to use any of my existing EarPods with it. Considering I’d just downloaded a bunch of stuff from Netflix to watch on my flights, this ended up being pretty annoying.
So, instead of doing what a normal person might do and re-download everything to their phone, I bought a pair of AirPods.
A few thoughts:
- Setting them up was incredibly simple. Like ridiculously simple.
I’m no audiophile, but they sound great to my ears.
My favorite feature is how easy it is to swap between connected devices — I can switch the output between my iPad Pro, iPhone, and MacBook Pro in just a few seconds.
The auto-pause feature when you remove one from your ear is pretty great.
After using them for a couple of weeks now, I’m a little sad I waited so long. Now I just need Apple to release the AirPower charging mat and the wireless charging case for the AirPods and I’ll finally be able to get rid of almost all of the cables on my desk.
