48 Pixels is written and curated by Jim Mock in rainy Portland, Oregon.

48 Pixels? Why?

I was trying to come up with a short(ish) domain name and this one was available. I got the idea from the size of the icons on my desktop (I resize them to 48px because the default 64px is too big for my tastes on my 13” MacBook Air).

Hardware

My current setup is a summer 2012 13” MacBook Air, which I connect to a 27” Apple Thunderbolt Display while at the office. I also have a black 32 GB iPad mini that I use far more than my Air when I’m at home, and a black 16 GB iPhone 5, which I use mostly as a phone and camera.

Software

Nearly all of the coding for the site is done in Coda 2, and most of the writing is done in BBEdit on my Mac or Textastic on my iPad. While using my Mac, most of the posting is handled by MarsEdit. On the iPad, I use Poster.

The site itself is powered by WordPress and hosted by Site5.
